epsxe is without any doubt the best emulator for psx available. It seems complicated but in the end is one of the easiest and most compatible emulator among every kind.
In this tutorial I will show you how to install and set the epsxe, you will need some plugin, the bios and maybe some additional file... then you will be able to play with every single game released! wow... a good way to comeback young... well let's start...
DOWNLOAD EPSXE
You will find the epsxe in the official site of this amazing emulator, HERE, go to DOWNLOADS and save the epsxe v1.7.0 but I suggest you to install the 1.6.0 too cuz some games run better on that version too... don' t worry, the configuration that I will explain here is exactly the same for both versions.
Unzip the file and place the folder wherever you want!
BIOS
Download the PSX BIOS is not legal... so do it at your own risk, here i make a list of the BIOS files available: Dtlh3000, Dtlh3002, Scph1000, Scph1001, Scph5000. Scph5500, Scph5502, Scph7000, Scph7001, Scph7003, Scph7502. Check HERE or in GOOGLE.
Whenever you will have a BIOS remember to place the .BIN file into the EPSXE_BIOS folder that you will find into the EPSXE170 folder.
PLUGIN
Another important and necessary element to make the epsxe works properly is to install the right plugins, I will make it easy and I will use the method of the guide that helped me on my first installation of epsxe (check the link in the bottom of this article to see the guide).Download THIS FILE and unzip. now put every file into the PLUGINS folder.
About the plugins that you just downloaded:
cdrPeops.dll - CD-ROM plug-in.
gpuPeopsSoft - video plug-in. For computers with a slow video card
gpuPeteD3D.dll, gpuPeteDX6D3D.dll, gpuPeteOpenGL.dll - video plug-ins that render the 3D graphics
gpuPeteOpenGL2.dll - video plug-ins that render the 3D graphics, the best, but only for new video cards
spuEternal.dll - audio plug-in.
spuEternalL.dll - just a supporting file for spuEternal.dll
START EPSXE!
go to your EPSXE170 folder and click on EPSX.EXE, if you have an error that say "Zlib1.dll was not found" don't worry cuz is a common thing, just download HERE , unzip and place the zlib1.dll in the EPSX170 folder, now retry to open EPSXE.EXE and everything should be ok!SETTINGS
Set the epsxe is not difficoult, when you will run for the 1st time the software the WIZARD GUIDE will be automatically opened, follow step by step, and choose the Plugins as I explained above, everything depend on your computer. Choose the BIOS and choose the Keys of the controller, it will take just a copule of minutes.VIDEO: set the video like this and you should not have any problems: go to CONFIG, VIDEO, on main video plugin choose one that is right for you, then click on CONFIGURE , on the new window check at the bottom on "default setting" and click on NICE, press OK and then OK again.... it should work perfectly!
CONTROLLER: CONFIG, GAME PAD, choose your port and choose your controller and the keys... very easy!
DOWNLOAD ROMS!
from EMUPARADISE And is time to play! if you want to play from CD click on FILE, RUN CD-ROM and select your driver, if you want to play a ISO file, go to FILE, RUN ISO and choose the file that you just downloaded from emuparadise.
Everything should work.... but you can experience some problems...
ECM FILE?
You downloaded an ISO and it turn to be an ECM file? what is that? well, you just download THIS extract wherever you want, open the folder that you just extract and drag the .ECM file that you downloaded from EMUPARADISE over the icon called UNECM, a DOS window will be opened, everything will be automatic, when the DOS window will be closed you can delete the old .ECM file and you will notice a brand new file near it.... ready to be opened with EPSXE! (more info here)PROTECTED GAME?
first of all check if the you find any patch against the protection in this place (HERE), if is not here check below... if you find the patch .PPF download it and download PPF O MATIC. Now Unzip PPF O MATIC and from the folder launch ppf-o-matic3.exe. Add the ISO and ADD the patch .PPF and click on APPLY. Now you can play!TRY ANOTHER VERSION!
If some games doesn't work on 1.7.0 try to set the 1.6.0 version of EPSXE and launch it with this older version, it works with some games!CHEATS
This thing works like a gameshark, download the PEC( psx emulation cheater), and install it in your computer. now... Launch the PEC and from the list choose the codes that you need and click on SEND CHEATS TO THE PLUG IN and before start the game in EPSXE go to CONFIG, VIDEO and choose "psx emulator cheater" as the main plug in, then start the game normally, should work but some games have problems.LINKS
